As a business owner, your personal respect in the community will always follow your businesses reputation as well. If you are the owner of a set of storage units, you must be personable and known to keep your property safe. If you suspect at there are issues, especially illegal ongoings on your business property, you will need to take care of this problem immediately. Here is what you can do if you want to deter illegal issues going on with your self-storage units.

Install flood lights and cameras

Those who may be performing criminal activities, such as concealing stolen goods, will want to mitigate their risk as best as they can. This means that they may want to be more secret about their activities. Make sure that all of the buildings in your storage business have floor lights and cameras. There can be cameras outside of the building and inside of the hall. Be sure to get a camera system that records what is going on, then watch the tape so that you have an idea of what is going on at all times.

Hire security onsite

If you are afraid of any shady dealings going on onsite of your self-storage units, you can hire security. Security guards can walk around during the day and after the business closes to make sure that people are not hanging around or performing unauthorized activities on your property. If you have a large property, be sure to have a designated security cart for them to ride the property in. Once the community and renters know that you keep a watchful eye on the property, people will be reluctant to try anything illegal on your property.

Call in the police if you notice anything

After viewing your cameras and listening to any reports from your security guards, if there is anything odd going on in your space, call the police. The police will be able to view your cameras with your permission on your property. If there is anything going on, or if the police see specific individuals who they know to be wanted or suspected of crimes, this may give the police cause to look around for evidence. If anything odd is going on and is spotted by yourself or security, call the nonemergency police line to ask for them to check. If customers and the community know that the police often inspect your property or have a good relationship with you, this will be a good crime deterrent.
